Frequently Asked Questions

Does printing on both sides make this cartridge run out sooner?

No. The 2420D's duplex unit flips the sheet so both faces get printed, which halves paper use — but toner is consumed per printed side, and every side still counts toward the Q6511A's 6,000-page rating. Two-sided printing saves the paper budget, not the toner budget, and the 11A neither knows nor cares which mode you choose.

Which number should I match before ordering?

The one on the cartridge coming out of the machine: Q6511A, sold by HP as the 11A. Duplex, network and tray letters after a model name change nothing about the cartridge — the whole 2420 family drinks from the same part number.

What is in the parcel?

One black cartridge only, factory-sealed in its protective bag inside a single carton, at $45.76. Open it at the printer, because the sealing strip should come out moments before the cartridge goes in.

Talk me through the change on a 2420D.

Top cover up, old cartridge out by its handle. Give the new one a gentle side-to-side rock so the toner bed evens out, strip the seal, lower it into the bay until it clicks home, and close up. The printer calibrates itself and the queue carries on.

Why did the second side of my pages start looking lighter first?

It usually is not the second side at all — fading that seems one-sided is typically the whole cartridge running low, noticed first on whichever pages you inspect closely. Rock the cartridge and print again; if the lightness persists on both faces, the 11A has given its 6,000 pages.

What if the cartridge misbehaves after a week?

It is backed by a 1-year warranty with 1-year free returns, so a bad unit goes back or gets swapped rather than becoming your problem to nurse along. Help is available Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST.

About This 11A Cartridge for the LaserJet 2420D

Owners of the duplexing LaserJet 2420d tend to run long documents — contracts, manuals, reports — and this single Q6511A is sized for exactly that rhythm: 6,000 pages of black output at $45.76, changed in two minutes when the panel says so.

We dispatch from IL, PA, GA and CA depending on stock and distance, with the details published on the shipping & returns page. Everything else stocked for this printer line is gathered under HP.
