HP C3909A Toner Cartridges

Late-nineties offices that printed in serious volume chose the LaserJet 5Si or the 8000, and both families feed on the same black cartridge: the HP 09A (C3909A). Suffixes like MX and NX describe configuration bundles, not different engines — the LaserJet 5Si, the 5Si MX and the LaserJet 8000DN all take the identical unit. HP made no high-yield 09X, so one part number covers every machine. Clever Supplies stocks the 09A as the genuine OEM HP original and as a compatible, keeping these durable printers supplied without a scavenger hunt. Decades after launch, the 09A remains easy to buy — a fitting supply for printers that refuse to quit.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have a LaserJet 5Si MX — does it take the same 09A as the regular 5Si?

Yes. The MX, NX and HM suffixes denote configuration bundles, not different print engines — every 5Si variant and every LaserJet 8000 takes the same 09A (C3909A) cartridge. Suffixes never change the cartridge.

Will a compatible 09A print as dark as the original in these old printers?

A well-made compatible 09A produces solid black text comparable to the OEM cartridge — these printers were engineered for crisp monochrome output, and the toner spec hasn't changed. If a compatible ever prints gray or streaky out of the box, that's a defective unit, not a limitation of compatibles in general.

Are 09A cartridges getting hard to find?

They're a legacy cartridge, but supply remains steady because so many 5Si and 8000 printers are still running. Clever Supplies stocks the 09A in both genuine HP and compatible form, so owners of these durable machines can keep them printing without hunting.
