What is the right way to install this set in our C1760nw?

One cartridge at a time. Take out the old cartridge, gently rock the new one side to side a few times to distribute the toner, pull the seal tape straight out until it comes free, and slide the cartridge into the slot with the matching color label — black 331-0778, cyan 331-0777, magenta 331-0780, yellow 331-0779. Repeat per color, close the cover, and print a test page. If the test page is even across all four colors, the job is finished; faintness on the first page or two is normal as a fresh cartridge settles in.

The first pages after a swap look faint — should we worry?

Usually not. A new cartridge needs a few pages to distribute toner evenly, and output typically firms up within the first several prints. If pages are still faint after a dozen or so, remove the cartridge, rock it gently, check the seal tape came out completely, and reseat it firmly. A tape tab left inside is the most common cause of persistently pale prints.
