Frequently Asked Questions

How do I confirm this is the black cartridge our M553DN uses?

Pull the empty cartridge and read its stamp: the M553DN's black slot takes the CF360X, the black member of HP's 508X family. This listing is that cartridge, one to a box, at $54.43. Matching stamp to listing is the whole check — printer nicknames and fleet labels do not matter.

We print contracts and filled forms all day. Will we see the full 12,500 pages?

Probably not all of them, and that is normal. The 12,500-page rating assumes light, standard coverage; dense form fields, shaded tables and bold headings spend toner faster. A forms-heavy workgroup should budget on landing under the rating and judge the cartridge by its cost against the pages it actually delivered.

Black pages are coming out with streaks. Is that the cartridge?

Often, yes — a cartridge at the very end of its life can lay toner unevenly, which reads as streaks or bands on the page. Try a fresh CF360X first. If the streaks survive a new cartridge in exactly the same place on every page, the cause sits elsewhere in the machine and is worth a technician's time.

Can the replacement wait until the weekend?

Usually. These machines warn before they stop, and the tail end of a CF360X still prints — just lighter. If the output is acceptable for internal work, you can nurse it through the week and swap the cartridge during a quiet moment. Keep the spare on site so the timing is your choice, not the printer's.

Does this cartridge also serve our other Enterprise printers?

The CF360X is the shared black for the 508X platform, the same supply family listed for the Color LaserJet M533X. A spare bought for the M553DN can stand in for any machine in the family whose supply list names CF360X — one reason offices standardize on the part number instead of stocking model by model.

What happens if the cartridge fails inside its first months?

It is covered by a 1-year warranty with 1-year free returns. Orders ship from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and support answers Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST — see the shipping and returns page for the full terms.

About This CF360X Black Cartridge for the Color LaserJet M553DN

The M553DN is the kind of printer a workgroup leans on without thinking about — until the black runs out mid-contract. This compatible CF360X is its 12,500-page black cartridge at $54.43, built for exactly that forms-and-documents workload. As part of the HP 508X line it doubles as fleet stock: the cartridge on the M553DN's shelf is the same one the rest of the Enterprise row takes, so a single spare covers the whole row.
