Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly am I getting in this 2 pack?

Two cartridges of the same black supply: CB540A, the black station of the 125A family. There is no color cartridge in the box and no second part number to decode — both units are identical, one to fit now and one to hold in reserve.

How should I handle the second cartridge while the first one is working?

Leave it sealed in its packaging, stored flat in a cool, dry cupboard away from direct light. Toner does not dry out the way ink does, so a spare kept properly will be ready months later. Fitting the cartridges in the order they arrived keeps the rotation simple.

What yield does each cartridge in the pair carry?

Each CB540A is rated at roughly 2,200 pages per cartridge at standard coverage. Your real figure will move with the work — statement runs and report packs draw far more black than the occasional letter — so judge the pair by the first cartridge's actual life in your machine.

Why buy black two at a time instead of singly?

Because black is the station that stops the machine. Text, faxes and plain copies all depend on it, and it nearly always empties ahead of the colors. Having the replacement already on the shelf turns a mid-job stoppage into a two-minute swap.

Does this pack serve the Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP?

Yes — that multifunction model and its relatives on the 125A supply line all take CB540A in the black slot. Read the code off the cartridge you remove; when it matches, either unit from this pack drops straight in.

What protection covers the pair?

Both cartridges are backed by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so the spare sitting in your cupboard is protected for a full year just like the one in the machine.
