Frequently Asked Questions

Pages are fading down one side. Is the black cartridge really finished?

Quite possibly — an uneven fade is the classic signature of a 106R03899 running on its last toner, because what little remains stops coating the page evenly. Before you conclude anything, take the cartridge out and rock it gently side to side a few times, then print a test page: if the darkness comes back evenly, you have redistributed what is left and bought yourself some pages, but treat it as notice to order — the fade will return, and next time the rocking trick will do less.

How many pages should I get from this cartridge?

The rating is 6,000 pages at standard coverage. At this listing's price of $54.79 that is about 0.91 cents per page. Real life moves around the rating: text-heavy correspondence treats a cartridge kindly, while pages with big shaded tables and solid graphics draw it down faster.

What exactly is in the box?

One cartridge — a single compatible 106R03899 black for the Versalink C600, sealed and ready to fit. This listing is the straightforward one-for-one replacement for a cartridge that has just given out.

Does this black also fit the C605 multifunction?

Yes. The Versalink C605 takes the identical 106R03899 black, so the same cartridge covers the printer and the multifunction if your office runs one of each — one part number on the shelf instead of two.

The printer still shows a low-toner warning after I fit the new cartridge. Should I worry?

Give it a page or two first: run a few prints and check that the output is dark and even, since that is what the cartridge is actually for. If print quality is right and the message lingers, a restart of the printer usually clears a stale warning. If pages come out pale with a brand-new cartridge fitted, that is a different conversation — contact support rather than printing on and hoping.

What protection do I get if something goes wrong with it?

Twelve months of it, on both fronts: the warranty runs a full year and so does the free-returns window, with the details laid out on our shipping and returns page. We dispatch from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA; help is on hand on weekdays between 9 AM and 5 PM CST; and the Xerox toner page carries the rest of the range.
