Frequently Asked Questions

How far does 17,000 pages actually go in a small office?

At a typical small-office pace of 800 to 1,200 black pages a month, one cartridge covers roughly 14 to 20 months of everyday printing and copying. Busier desks printing closer to 2,500 pages a month will see it last around seven months. The rating assumes about 5% page coverage, so dense contracts and full-page forms will land below it.

What does a black page cost with this cartridge?

At $60.34 for 17,000 rated pages, the toner cost works out to about 0.35 cents per black page. That is the number worth comparing, because black does the heavy lifting on this machine — text, copies and faxes all draw from this one cartridge. Paper and the color cartridges are separate costs.

Is this cartridge made only for the MPC406 in the listing title?

No. The listing carries one model name, but this 842091 black cartridge belongs to the whole Ricoh MP C306, MP C307 and MP C406 compact color MFP platform, and every machine in that family takes the same black cartridge. If your printer is part of that platform, this is the correct cartridge regardless of which model name is on the front panel.

Do copies and faxes use this cartridge too, or only printing?

Copies and received faxes print from the same black cartridge, so a machine that mostly copies still drains it at the same rate per page. Scanning is the one function that uses no toner at all. Offices that copy heavily often find the cartridge ends sooner than their print volume alone would suggest.

How will I know when it is genuinely running low?

The panel percentage is the reliable signal; early low-toner warnings often appear with a fair amount of printing left. On the page, fading down the middle or patchy solids are the late signs that the cartridge is nearly spent. Ordering when the gauge drops near 20% leaves comfortable headroom.

What protection comes with this cartridge?

Every cartridge is covered by a one-year warranty, and returns are free for a full year if it does not perform as it should — the details are on our shipping and returns page. If you need help, our support team answers Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
