Frequently Asked Questions

The machine holds one black cartridge — why keep a second one on the shelf?

Because the day a cartridge runs dry is never a slow day. With the spare already in the cupboard, the swap takes a minute and work continues, and you can reorder at normal prices instead of paying for rush shipping. A sealed toner cartridge stores perfectly well, so the second one loses nothing by waiting.

What does this 2-pack save compared with buying singles?

Two single cartridges cost $120.68; this pack is $102.18, so you save $18.50 and each cartridge effectively costs $51.09. That brings the toner cost down to roughly 0.30 cents per page across the pack's combined 34,000 pages. The saving is modest per page but real, and it comes with the no-stockout benefit on top.

Can the two cartridges be split between two different machines?

Yes — each cartridge is individually sealed, so one can go into a machine today and the other can feed a second machine on the same platform whenever it needs it. Offices running two compact machines from this family often keep one shared spare rather than a separate backup for each. Just store the unopened cartridge flat, indoors and out of direct light.

Will this black cartridge fit machines other than the MPC406 named here?

Yes. The listing is titled for one model, but the 842091 black cartridge serves the entire Ricoh MP C306, MP C307 and MP C406 platform, and every machine in that compact color MFP family uses this same cartridge. The single model name is a listing convention, not a limitation of the cartridge itself.

Should the spare be installed as soon as the low-toner warning appears?

Not necessarily — the first warning usually arrives with useful printing still left in the installed cartridge. A practical rhythm is to order or confirm your shelf stock at the warning, then swap when print actually starts to fade. That way the spare is always the next one in line and never sits half-used in a drawer.

What if one cartridge in the pack turns out to be faulty?

Coverage applies per cartridge, not per box: each one carries a one-year warranty, and returns stay free for a full year under the policy on our shipping and returns page. You would return only the faulty cartridge, not the whole pack. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
