Frequently Asked Questions

Why do reds go orange and skin tones look sunburned when magenta gets low?

Magenta is the red-making half of the color mix, and it carries most of the warmth in photographs and graphics. As it fades, reds slide toward orange, purples turn blue, and faces take on an odd ruddy cast. When warm colors look wrong but blues still look fine, magenta is the usual suspect.

What is the realistic page life of this magenta cartridge?

The rating is 22,500 pages at 5% coverage for $114.45, around half a cent per rated page. Flyers, brochures, and photo pages use far more than 5%, so marketing-heavy offices will see fewer pages; document-heavy offices printing occasional color should land near the rating.

Is this cartridge really only for the IMC4500 in the listing name?

No — the title names a single model, but the 842281 magenta cartridge is shared across the whole Ricoh IM C4500 and IM C6000 platform, and every machine in that family takes this same magenta supply. Whichever model from that platform sits in your office, this is its magenta cartridge.

Does copying in color use magenta the same way printing does?

Yes. A color copy lays down toner from the same four cartridges as a color print, so a copier-heavy office drains magenta just as steadily as a print-heavy one. Black-and-white copying, by contrast, leaves the color cartridges untouched.

Is it worth keeping a spare magenta on hand?

If color output matters to your work — client documents, marketing pieces, anything with your branding — yes. Color cartridges rarely empty in sync, and magenta is frequently the one that strands a job. A sealed spare stored away from heat keeps fine until the day it is needed.

How are returns handled if the cartridge does not perform?

You get a one-year warranty and free returns for the first year, so a cartridge that fails early is replaced or refunded without return shipping costs. The full terms are on our shipping and returns page. We ship from IL, PA, GA, and CA, and support is staffed Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
