Frequently Asked Questions

Why do reds and skin tones look wrong before the printer says magenta is low?

Magenta does the heavy lifting in reds, pinks, and natural skin tones, so even a partly depleted cartridge throws those colors off while the level gauge still shows toner remaining. When photos start looking sunburned or logos drift toward orange, magenta is the first cartridge to suspect.

How many pages should I realistically expect from one magenta cartridge?

The rating is about 6,000 pages at 5% coverage, which suits text documents with light color accents. Full-color brochures, photos, and presentation pages use several times that coverage, so a magenta cartridge feeding mostly marketing pieces will finish well ahead of the rating.

Does this cartridge fit only the printer named in the listing?

No — the 406477 magenta is a platform cartridge. It serves the entire Aficio SP C231N, Aficio SP C231SF, Aficio SP C232DN, Aficio SP C232SF, Aficio SP C242SF, Aficio SP C310, Aficio SP C310A, Aficio SP C311N, Aficio SP C312DN and Aficio SP C320DN family of compact color lasers; the listing title names one model because that is how the catalog entry was written. If your printer is part of this platform, this is the magenta it uses.

Is buying magenta on its own smarter than buying a color set?

If magenta is the only color that is empty, a single cartridge is the cheapest correct move. Sets earn their discount when two or three colors are running out around the same time, because then you would be paying full single-cartridge prices three times in a row.

How should I keep a spare magenta cartridge until I need it?

Leave it sealed in its box, stored flat in a cool, dry cabinet away from sunlight and heat sources. A spare kept that way waits patiently on the shelf, so the day magenta gives out mid-job you are swapping cartridges instead of waiting on a delivery.

What if the cartridge is defective or fails early?

It is backed by a one-year warranty, and returns are free for a full year after purchase. Our support team answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and the complete policy is posted on our shipping and returns page.
