Frequently Asked Questions
The C220 only holds one black cartridge — why would I buy two at once?
Because on this machine, empty black means no printing at all, color jobs included. A sealed spare on the shelf turns a mid-job stoppage into a two-minute swap. There is also a price reason: this 2-pack is $113.70, which works out to $56.85 per cartridge against $66.09 bought singly — $18.48 saved across the pair, and the per-page cost drops from about 3.3 cents to roughly 2.8 cents. On a cartridge family this expensive per page, that step down is worth taking if you know the printer is staying.
How much printing does the pair cover?
Each cartridge is rated at 2,000 pages, so the two together cover about 4,000 pages at the standard 5% coverage measure. For an office printing around 300 black pages a month, that is a little over a year of black printing from one order. Heavy, dense pages will pull the real number down; plain text documents tend to land close to the rating.
Does the second cartridge keep well while it waits?
Yes, as long as it stays sealed in its bag, stored flat in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat. Toner does not dry out the way liquid ink does, so a spare bought today is fine months from now. A practical habit: write the purchase date on the box, install the older cartridge first, and only open the spare when the installed one is genuinely finished.
Will both of these fit my printer?
Both cartridges in this pack are the 406046 black made for Ricoh Aficio SP C220. Check the number on the black cartridge currently in your machine before ordering — if it reads 406046, this pack is the right one, and both units are identical, so there is no pairing or sequence to worry about.
Can I split the pack between two printers?
Absolutely. If you run two C220-series machines, one cartridge in each is a perfectly sensible way to use the pack, and the $56.85 per-cartridge price still beats buying two singles separately. The only thing you give up is the shelf spare for each machine. Single cartridges bought on their own are also covered individually if you prefer to order that way.
What if one cartridge in the pack has a problem?
Each cartridge stands on its own: a fault in one is handled on that cartridge alone, and the other is unaffected. Both carry our 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns — details live on the shipping and returns page. We ship from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California warehouses, and our support team is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
About This Ricoh 406046 Black Toner 2-Pack
This 2-pack pairs two compatible 406046 black toner cartridges for the Ricoh Aficio SP C220 color series — 2,000 pages each, 4,000 pages in total — at $113.70, or $56.85 per cartridge. We will be candid: this cartridge family is expensive per page however you buy it, because the cartridges are small by design. The pack simply softens that math by $18.48 and guarantees a spare is on hand for the one cartridge this printer cannot run without. See more of the range on our Ricoh brand page, and every cartridge is covered by a 1-year warranty with 1-year free returns from Clever Supplies.
