Frequently Asked Questions
Our reds have gone dull and skin tones look gray — is the magenta cartridge to blame?
Very often, yes. Magenta is what puts the red into logos, charts and photographs, and it is also a big part of natural skin tones. As it runs low, reds slide toward brown and orange, faces lose their warmth, and purples turn muddy blue. Print a page with a bold red block: if the red looks rusty or streaked while the other colors still print cleanly, the magenta is the cartridge to change — not all four.
Honest question: why does one magenta cartridge cost $168.74?
Because it is a genuinely large cartridge. This magenta is rated for up to 27,000 pages, so at $168.74 a page works out to roughly 0.62 cents of magenta. The SP C830DN is a fast, high-volume color machine aimed at offices that print color all day, and its cartridges are sized to match that duty cycle. If your office prints mostly black with the odd color page, this volume may be more than you need — but if color runs daily, the per-page math is what makes the price sensible.
How long will 27,000 pages actually last us?
That rating assumes about 5% page coverage. A department printing around 3,000 color pages a month could see a year or more from one cartridge at light coverage; heavy marketing pages with full-color backgrounds can cut the real figure substantially. Magenta use also depends on what you print — red-heavy branding and photo work draw magenta far faster than spreadsheets do.
Is this the right cartridge for our machine?
This magenta cartridge is made for the Ricoh Aficio SP C830DN platform. The SP C830DN takes four separate cartridges — black, cyan, magenta and yellow — and this listing is the magenta only; black is sold separately. If your printer reports a low magenta, this is the cartridge that clears it.
What does the warranty and returns cover on a cartridge this size?
Every compatible cartridge we sell carries a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. If this magenta arrives faulty or fails early in its life, it is covered under the terms on our shipping & returns page — and if only one cartridge in your machine is a problem, only that cartridge needs to come back.
Can I keep a spare this expensive sitting on a shelf?
Yes, if it stays sealed. Keep the cartridge in its original packaging, stored flat in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat. A sealed spare does not dry out or go stale the way opened ink does, and buying ahead means a busy print day never stops while you wait for a delivery.
