Frequently Asked Questions

How many months of printing does 12,000 pages actually cover on a small-office machine?

For a workgroup printing around 1,500 pages a month, a single cartridge lasts roughly eight months; a busier office at 3,000 pages a month will work through it in about four. The 12,000-page figure is measured at standard 5% coverage, so dense forms, contracts and scanned-document reprints with heavy black areas will land a bit below that rating.

What does one page cost us with this cartridge?

At $92.74 for a rated 12,000 pages, the toner cost comes to about 0.77 cents per page — roughly three quarters of a cent — before paper. For a compact black-and-white MFP like this one, that is a fair, honest running cost: not the cheapest per page in the Ricoh range, but reasonable for a cartridge this size in a machine this class.

Which machine is this cartridge made for?

It is the black toner cartridge for the Ricoh Aficio SP 401SPF, a compact monochrome multifunction printer. This listing is a single cartridge; if your office goes through toner quickly, the same cartridge is also sold here in multi-packs that bring the per-cartridge price down.

Print is fading on one side of the page — does that mean the cartridge is empty?

One-sided fading usually means the remaining toner has settled unevenly rather than run out completely. Take the cartridge out and rock it gently from side to side several times to redistribute the toner, then reinstall it. If the fade returns within a few days of normal use, the cartridge really is at the end of its life and a replacement is the right call.

If this cartridge turns out to be defective, what happens?

It is covered by a 1-year warranty, and it also comes with 1-year free returns under our shipping and returns policy. Leaks, heavy streaking from the first pages, or a cartridge that dies far short of its rated yield — reach out to us and we will replace it or refund you.

How quickly can a replacement reach us?

Orders ship from our four warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, so delivery to most US addresses is fast, and if you need help before ordering, our support team answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
