Frequently Asked Questions

How long will one of these cartridges actually last in a small office?

The 12A8305 is rated at 6,000 pages at standard 5% coverage, and in a small office printing 400 to 600 pages a month that works out to roughly a year of service from a single cartridge. Text-heavy work — invoices, letters, statements — tracks close to the rating, while dense graphics and bold forms pull the real number down. For a low-volume E232, one cartridge is genuinely a long-term supply, not a monthly purchase.

What does the printing cost work out to per page?

At $121.30 for the cartridge and a 6,000-page rating, the toner cost lands at about 2.02 cents per page. That is higher per page than the big departmental cartridges, which is the honest trade-off of a compact printer: you pay for the small footprint in slightly pricier pages. For the volumes an E232 usually handles, the yearly toner bill stays modest in absolute dollars.

Is this cartridge only for the E232, or does it fit other Lexmark models?

It fits the whole platform, not just the model in the listing name: E332, E332n, E332tn, E340, E342 and E342n. Lexmark built this cartridge family across several of its small workgroup printers of the era, and the cartridge is identical across all of them. If your machine is on that list, this is the correct cartridge regardless of which model name brought you to this page.

My E232 is well over a decade old — is it still worth feeding?

If the printer still powers on, feeds paper cleanly and produces sharp output, yes: a $121.30 cartridge costs far less than replacing the machine, and these older Lexmark units were built with very few wear parts in the paper path. The practical limit is the printer's mechanical condition, not toner availability. As long as the hardware holds up, this cartridge keeps it a working office printer.

How should I store the cartridge before I need it?

Leave it sealed in its bag, flat, in a dry room-temperature spot away from direct sunlight and heat vents. Toner powder does not dry out or expire the way ink does, so a cartridge bought today will print the same when it is installed months from now. When the low-toner warning appears, having the replacement already on the shelf turns a supply order into a two-minute swap.

What protection comes with this cartridge?

Every Clever Supplies compatible cartridge is backed by a one-year warranty, and returns are free for a full year if anything is wrong with it. The details are on our shipping and returns page. Support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST if you need help with an order.
