Frequently Asked Questions

• How many pages does the HP 3HZ97AN print?

HP rates the 3HZ97AN at about 700 pages under ISO/IEC 24711 test conditions, printing standard pages at around 5% coverage. Your own count will move with coverage, paper and settings — dense colour pages use far more ink than plain text.

• Which printers take the 3HZ97AN?

It fits OfficeJet 9012, OfficeJet Pro 9010, OfficeJet Pro 9015, OfficeJet Pro 9016 and 5 more. The complete verified list is in the Compatible Printers section on this page — check your model there before ordering.

• What is the HP 966XL?

An extra-high-yield black (about 3,000 pages) that only the OfficeJet Pro 9020 series takes. If your printer is a 9020-series model, the 966XL black is the lowest cost per page in this family; the 962XL black serves the other 962 models.

• Standard or XL — which should I buy?

This is the standard-yield cartridge, rated at about 700 pages. If you print every week, the XL version of the same colour works out cheaper per page; for a lightly used printer, this size avoids ink sitting unused.

• Is the 3HZ97AN pigment or dye ink?

It is pigment ink — the same ink technology HP uses in the original 3HZ97AN — so text stays sharp and resists water and highlighter smear.

• Does this cartridge have a chip?

Yes — a new compatible chip that reports ink levels to the printer, so the low-ink warnings keep working. It is not a refilled original shell with a reset chip.

• My printer shows a warning after installing — what do I do?

Acknowledge the on-screen message, reseat the cartridge until it clicks, and restart the printer. If the warning persists, wipe the gold chip contacts with a dry lint-free cloth and reinstall. The 962 family carries HP's strictest dynamic-security regime: the printer verifies the chip on every cartridge, and HP+ enrolled units accept original HP cartridges only. Our cartridges use a new compatible chip matched to these models; keep the printer's firmware as-is where you can, and if an update ever blocks a cartridge, the lifetime warranty covers you.

• Will this work if my printer uses HP+?

if your printer was set up with HP+, it accepts original HP cartridges only — that lock is part of the HP+ program and applies to every non-original cartridge, ours included. On printers that are not HP+-locked, these cartridges install and print as normal.

• Why does HP warn about non-original cartridges on these printers?

The 9020 series runs HP's strictest firmware checks plus optional HP+ enrolment. Our cartridges use new compatible chips matched to these models, and the lifetime warranty covers you if an HP update ever changes recognition.

• Can I mix this cartridge with original HP cartridges?

Yes. Each slot is read independently, so a compatible black alongside original colours (or the other way round) prints normally.

• Is this an original HP cartridge?

No. It is a Clever Supplies compatible cartridge built to the 3HZ97AN specification and covered by our lifetime warranty. It is not manufactured by HP; the HP name appears only to identify the printers it fits.

• What if the cartridge leaks, is not recognised or prints badly?

Stop and contact us — do not keep printing on a faulty cartridge. The lifetime warranty covers recognition failures, leaks and print-quality defects: we replace the cartridge or refund you.
