Frequently Asked Questions

• How many pages does the HP N9J91AN print?

HP rates the N9J91AN at about 415 pages under ISO/IEC 24711 test conditions, printing standard pages at around 5% coverage. Your own count will move with coverage, paper and settings — dense colour pages use far more ink than plain text.

• Which printers take the N9J91AN?

It fits ENVY Inspire 7252e, ENVY Inspire 7255e, ENVY Inspire 7258e, ENVY Inspire 7955e and 18 more. The complete verified list is in the Compatible Printers section on this page — check your model there before ordering.

• Black or tri-color — do I need both?

The printer needs both slots filled to print. The black cartridge prints text; the tri-color holds cyan, magenta and yellow in one body — when one colour runs out, the tri-color cartridge is replaced as a unit.

• Where is the printhead on this cartridge?

Built into the cartridge itself. Every swap fits a fresh printhead, which is why a new cartridge often clears streaks and missing colours that cleaning cycles could not fix on these models.

• Standard or XL — which should I buy?

This is the high-yield version, rated at about 415 pages. It costs more up front than the standard cartridge and far less per printed page, so it is the right pick for regular printing; the standard size suits a printer that only runs occasionally.

• Is the N9J91AN pigment or dye ink?

It is dye-based ink, matching the original N9J91AN: colours are vivid and blend smoothly, which is what these printers are tuned for.

• Does this cartridge have a chip?

Yes — a new compatible chip that reports ink levels to the printer, so the low-ink warnings keep working. It is not a refilled original shell with a reset chip.

• My printer shows a warning after installing — what do I do?

Acknowledge the on-screen message, reseat the cartridge until it clicks, and restart the printer. If the warning persists, wipe the gold chip contacts with a dry lint-free cloth and reinstall.

• Do the ENVY Inspire and ENVY Photo printers share this cartridge?

Yes — the 64 family covers both lines (the Inspire 7200/7900 series and the Photo 6200/7100/7800 series are all on the list below), which is unusual for HP and worth double-checking before you order for a different ENVY.

• Will this work if my printer uses HP+?

if your printer was set up with HP+, it accepts original HP cartridges only — that lock is part of the HP+ program and applies to every non-original cartridge, ours included. On printers that are not HP+-locked, these cartridges install and print as normal.

• Can I mix this cartridge with original HP cartridges?

Yes. Each slot is read independently, so a compatible black alongside original colours (or the other way round) prints normally.

• Is this an original HP cartridge?

No. It is a Clever Supplies compatible cartridge built to the N9J91AN specification and covered by our lifetime warranty. It is not manufactured by HP; the HP name appears only to identify the printers it fits.
