Cross-reference: HP CB540A, the 125A black toner cartridge (2,200 pages), is the same cartridge Canon sells as Canon Cartridge 116 (black 1980B001AA, cyan 1979B001AA, yellow 1977B001AA, magenta 1978B001AA) for the Canon imageCLASS MF8050Cn and MF8080Cw and the Color imageCLASS LBP5050 printers. Canon rates Cartridge 116 black at 2,200 pages and each color at 1,500 pages (ISO/IEC standard).
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the "8 Color Set" name mean when I order?
It is the larger, stock-up format of the 125A family — the same four part numbers, CB540A black, CB541A cyan, CB542A yellow and CB543A magenta, bought in a bigger box so a busy machine's next changes are already on the shelf. The cartridges themselves are the standard 125A units; nothing about their fit or ratings changes.
How should I store the spares until they are needed?
Keep them sealed, flat and in a cool, dry spot away from direct light and heaters. Toner cartridges wait patiently in their packaging, and working through the box in the order it arrived keeps the oldest stock in use first.
What is each cartridge in the set rated to print?
Every CB540A black is rated at roughly 2,200 pages, and every CB541A, CB542A and CB543A color at about 1,400 pages, at standard coverage. Judge your reorder point by cartridges remaining on the shelf rather than by pages, since coverage varies so much between jobs.
When one color runs low, which cartridge do I open?
Only the one the machine names. Pull a sealed cartridge of that color from the box, fit it, and leave everything else untouched — there is never a reason to open a cartridge before its station calls for it.
Which printers is this bulk set for?
Any machine on the 125A platform, which includes the Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP family and the CP1215 and CP1515-series printers. Confirm with the supply label: it should list the CB540A–CB543A codes.
What protection comes with a set this size?
Each cartridge carries a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so even the last unit out of the box is covered on the same terms as the first.
About This HP 125A 8 Color Set (CB540A–CB543A)
At $133.37, this is the format for a 125A machine that cannot afford downtime — a full working set for today plus sealed reserves for the changes that follow, all in the four standard codes: CB540A, CB541A, CB542A and CB543A. It suits offices that would rather count boxes on a shelf than track individual warnings. Single colors remain available from the HP compatible range if one station ever outruns the plan.
