The black that does the paperwork in a Claria Premium printer is this one: our compatible T273XL020-S, a pigment black rated up to 500 pages (ISO/IEC 24711) — double the standard T273020-S black's 250 pages. In the 273 family the split matters: 020 is the pigment text black, while 120 is a separate dye Photo Black for images, and the two are not interchangeable.

The cartridge carries a new compatible chip for ink-level reporting. This cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur — if a warning appears, reseat the cartridge firmly and restart the printer before assuming the cartridge is at fault. Its sibling colours are T273XL120-S Photo Black, T273XL220-S cyan, T273XL320-S magenta and T273XL420-S yellow, the colours rated up to 650 pages each.
It fits the seven verified 273 printers — XP-520, XP-600, XP-610, XP-620, XP-800, XP-810 and XP-820 — all Expression Premium models, and no other family: the near-twin 302 cartridges belong to different printers (XP-6000/XP-6100) and do not fit these. Covered by our lifetime warranty, with free returns for the first year.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many pages does the T273XL020 print?
Up to 500 pages, Epson's published ISO/IEC 24711 rating for the genuine XL black. Text-heavy printing tracks that figure most closely; dense photo pages use more ink.
Is the 020 black pigment or dye?
Pigment. In the Claria Premium 273 set, Black (020) is the one pigment cartridge — that is what gives documents their crisp, smudge-resistant text. The other four colours, Photo Black included, are dye.
What is the difference between this and the Photo Black cartridge?
They are different cartridges in different slots. T273XL020-S is pigment black for text; T273XL120-S is dye Photo Black for photographs. Neither can substitute for the other, and a printer that asks for one will not accept the other.
Which printers take it?
The seven verified Expression Premium models: XP-520, XP-600, XP-610, XP-620, XP-800, XP-810 and XP-820. It does not fit 302-family printers such as the XP-6000 or XP-6100.
Does it have a chip?
Yes — a new compatible chip that reports ink levels. This cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur — if a warning appears, reseat the cartridge firmly and restart the printer before assuming the cartridge is at fault.
My printer flags the cartridge after a firmware update. What should I do?
Power off, remove the cartridge, check the chip contacts are clean, reseat it until it clicks, and power back on. A recent firmware update is the usual trigger for a false warning; if the message persists, contact us — the lifetime warranty covers the cartridge.
Can I run this XL black beside standard-capacity colours?
Yes. Each of the five slots is independent, so XL and standard cartridges mix freely. Our colours are XL, but a standard colour already in your printer works alongside this black.
How much ink is in it, in millilitres?
We do not publish a figure: Epson's US documentation gives no millilitre volume for the 273 family, so the Volume field is left blank rather than filled with a reseller claim. The verifiable figure is the 500-page ISO yield.
Is this a genuine Epson cartridge?
No — it is a Clever Supplies compatible built to the T273XL020-S specification and labelled compatible on the box and on this page. It is not manufactured by Epson.
What does the lifetime warranty cover?
A cartridge that fails to perform — not recognised after the reseat steps, leaking, or printing poorly from new — is replaced under the lifetime warranty. Free returns apply within the first year.
Why does black rate 500 pages when the colours rate 650?
That is Epson's own rating shape for this family: the XL black is rated 500 pages and each XL colour 650 (ISO/IEC 24711). The standard tier shows the reverse gap — black 250, colours 300 each.
Single or set — which should I buy?
The single when only black is low. If several colours are close behind, the Set of 5 (all XL) or the Bulk Set of 11 works out cheaper per cartridge; both are linked from this page.
