Frequently Asked Questions

What does the fourth cartridge add over the 3-color set?

The black. This set is the whole machine in one box — GPR-51BK black plus GPR-51C cyan, GPR-51M magenta and GPR-51Y yellow — while the 3-color set covers colors only. The step costs $53.42 over the 3-color set's $235.07, and it turns a color refresh into a complete one: every slot emptied, cleaned and refilled in a single planned session, every cartridge starting its life on the same day.

Why is the black rated lower than the three colors?

That is how Canon built the GPR-51 family, and we quote it as it stands: the colors are rated at 21,500 pages each, the GPR-51BK black at 19,000. It feels backwards — black usually carries the higher rating — but it has a practical consequence worth planning around: on color work, the black slot will call for attention first, so the colors from this set will likely still have life left when the black runs out.

What does the set average out to per cartridge?

$72.12 — $288.49 across four cartridges. Compare that with $90.69 for a color bought singly: set buying pulls every slot's price down at once. Against the alternative of refreshing the colors as a 3-color set and sourcing the black separately, the 4-set also collapses the whole job into one order and one delivery.

How should a full four-cartridge swap be scheduled on a production machine?

In a quiet window, with the set already on site. Four swaps is a short job, but on a production device it is still downtime, and the one mistake that hurts is starting the session with a cartridge missing. Order ahead, confirm all four are in the box when it lands, and the machine goes down and comes back up with a completely fresh toner bank in one pass.

How should the set be stored if we order before the current cartridges die?

As it arrives: cartridges sealed, the box flat, in a normal room away from heat and damp. Ordering a set ahead of need is normal production practice — the swap window rarely announces itself politely — and sealed toner waits without deteriorating. Just work oldest stock first if you hold sets for more than one machine.

What happens if one cartridge in the set is faulty?

It is dealt with on its own. Each cartridge carries a one-year warranty and one year of free returns, so a faulty GPR-51C, GPR-51M, GPR-51Y or GPR-51BK is replaced or returned individually while the other three stay in service. The full terms are on our shipping and returns page, and support answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
