Why do our reds print orange and faces look sunburned?

Magenta is the usual suspect. Red is built from magenta plus yellow, and skin tones lean heavily on magenta too — so a GPR-51M running low pulls reds toward orange and pushes faces toward a hot, sunburned cast, while blues and greens stay deceptively normal. On production output that goes out to clients, magenta fade is the color fault readers notice first, even if they cannot name it.

How many pages does one magenta cartridge actually cover?

The GPR-51M is rated at 21,500 pages — the same rating as the GPR-51C cyan and GPR-51Y yellow, and above the 19,000-page rating of the family's black cartridge. Rated yield assumes standard coverage, so photo-heavy and full-bleed work will come in under the figure and light color work above it. For planning, 21,500 is the right baseline for a magenta slot on a production machine.

What is the magenta share of a color page, in cost?

About 0.42 cents per page: $90.69 across 21,500 rated pages. That is the number to hold against your color rate if you charge for production work, or against your internal cost per copy if you do not. It is also identical across the three GPR-51 colors, which keeps color cost accounting unusually tidy.

The low-magenta warning is up but a run is due out today — swap now or push through?

If the output is client-facing, swap now. Magenta fade does not arrive evenly: pages can look acceptable in a stack and still carry an orange cast a client will spot instantly, and reprinting a finished run costs far more than the pages left in the old cartridge. For internal drafts, the remaining life is usable. The cartridge takes minutes to change — the cost of a reprint is the real risk.

Can we buy magenta together with the other colors for less?
