Frequently Asked Questions

What does a 34,200-page yield mean in day-to-day running?

Fewer changeovers. On an imageRUNNER that prints and copies all day, every cartridge swap is an interruption — a paused job, a queue forming. A GPR-42 cartridge rated at 34,200 pages stretches the distance between those interruptions further than most, which is the practical value of the yield figure beyond the cost maths.

The rated cost works out near 0.24 cents a page — higher than the GPR-43 or GPR-38. Why?

Stated plainly: cartridge pricing differs by family, and the GPR-42 sits higher per page than the GPR-43 (about 0.16 cents) or the GPR-38 (about 0.17 cents). But those families fit different machines — they are not alternatives for yours. What you can control is where you buy on this family's ladder: the pack sizes bring the GPR-42's rated cost down towards 0.19 cents a page.

Could we simply fit a cheaper GPR-43 cartridge instead?

No. This listing is the GPR42BK cartridge for machines that specify the Canon GPR-42. The GPR-43 and GPR-38 are built for other imageRUNNER models and will not fit or run in a GPR-42 machine — the cheaper cartridge that cannot be used is no saving at all.

What should we check when the first compatible cartridge goes in?

Run your normal work — copies, prints, the dense pages as well as the light ones — and look at density and consistency across the run. A single cartridge gives you that verdict on your own machine before you consider packs. You have a one-year warranty and one-year free returns behind the trial.

Is this an original Canon cartridge?

It is a compatible cartridge, made to match the GPR-42 specification and its 34,200-page rated yield — not a Canon-manufactured unit. The cover is a one-year warranty plus one-year free returns, detailed on our shipping and returns page.

Where does it ship from, and when can we reach you?

From one of four warehouses — Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California — whichever serves your address best. Support hours are Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
