Frequently Asked Questions

How long does one GPR40BK actually last in a busy office?

It is rated at 16,000 pages — close to double the life of a standard workgroup cartridge. An office putting 500 pages a day through its imageRUNNER gets roughly 32 working days, about six working weeks, from a single Canon GPR-40 black cartridge (GPR40BK) before anyone has to think about toner. For machines that run all day, that endurance is the product.

What does that endurance do to the cost per page?

The arithmetic is kind: $61.58 spread over 16,000 pages is about 0.38 cents per page — a low running cost for a single-cartridge purchase, before any pack discount enters the picture. Long life and low per-page cost arrive together here, because the price buys nearly twice the pages of a typical cartridge in this class.

Why does a longer-lasting cartridge matter beyond the price?

Every cartridge change is an interruption — a paused print run, a member of staff at the machine, a small risk of a job restarting wrong. Halving the number of changeovers halves those moments. On a machine serving a whole floor, fewer, longer cartridges also mean fewer spares to keep track of and fewer chances for the shelf to be caught empty.

How do we confirm our machine takes the GPR-40 and not the GPR-22?

Look at the cartridge code in your machine's supply list. If it names GPR-40 (GPR40BK), this is your cartridge. The Canon GPR-22 (GPR22BK) serves different imageRUNNER models, is rated at 8,400 pages, and cannot be substituted — the two cartridges are not interchangeable in either direction.

Is this a genuine Canon cartridge?

No. It is a compatible cartridge built to the Canon GPR-40 (GPR40BK) specification and sold under our own brand, which accounts for the price. It installs as the original does and carries the same 16,000-page rating.

What cover comes with a cartridge expected to last this long?

A 1-year warranty covers the cartridge, and returns are free within the first year if it fails to perform — protection that comfortably spans the working life of a 16,000-page unit in most offices. Full terms are on our shipping and returns page, and support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
