Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there no black cartridge in this set?

Because black lives on a different clock. In the Canon 131 family the black is a separate high-capacity cartridge (131BK, rated at 2,400 pages) that many offices replace on its own schedule — sometimes twice between colour changes. This set exists for the moment the three colours run low together: 131C cyan, 131M magenta and 131Y yellow, each rated at 1,500 pages, and nothing you do not need.

What does the colour-only set save against three singles?

The three colour singles are $34.70 each — $104.10 the set's worth. At $67.13, this set saves $36.97 and brings the average to about $22.38 per colour cartridge. It is not quite the four-set's per-cartridge price, but it avoids paying for a black cartridge your shelf does not need yet.

Do the three colours really run out at the same time?

Not to the page, but they travel together. Any colour page draws on all three, so their levels fall in the same period even if one technically empties first. That is why colour is sensibly bought as a trio: replace the empty one, and its two partners — already well down — are on hand when their warnings follow within weeks.

Our black is fine but colour output has gone dull — is this the fix?

Quite possibly. Dull, shifted colour with crisp black text is the classic signature of one colour running dry while the others compensate badly. A fresh 131C, 131M and 131Y restore the balance in one changeover round rather than chasing one cartridge at a time and wondering why the output is still off.

What about the black when it does run out?

It is sold separately as the 131BK single, and the full four-cartridge set is there for the times when everything runs low together. Buying colours as a trio and black as a single simply matches how the machine actually consumes them — nothing in this set stops you mixing the two habits.

What cover do the three cartridges carry?

A one-year warranty and one-year free returns on each, under the terms on our shipping & returns page. Support runs Monday to Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM CST, and orders ship from our IL, PA, GA or CA warehouses.
