Frequently Asked Questions
How long does 10,000 pages of yellow actually last?
Longer than most offices expect. The Canon 040H yellow (040HY) is rated for up to 10,000 pages at standard 5% coverage, and yellow is spent only on the color portion of a page — a typical office document with a logo and a chart uses a fraction of its surface in yellow. A department producing a few hundred color pages a month can run one of these for the better part of a year; a marketing team printing full-color sheets daily will move through it in a couple of months. Your machine's toner screen, checked monthly, turns the rating into your own real number.
Our prints have started looking cold and bluish — is yellow why?
Very possibly. Yellow is the warmth in a print. As it empties, greens lose their yellow component and turn blue, skin tones go pale and grey, and cream or warm-white backgrounds print stark white. Nothing looks broken — the output just looks like it was printed somewhere colder. Print the machine's test page and inspect the yellow block by itself: a pale or broken band there confirms what your documents have been hinting at, and it means the cyan and magenta are probably fine.
What does a color page cost on this cartridge?
At $66.33 for a 10,000-page rating, the yellow channel works out to roughly 0.66 cents per page at standard coverage — the arithmetic is simply the price divided by the rating. Heavy color pages cost more in practice, since coverage above 5% spends toner proportionally faster, but as a budgeting figure for an office color machine, two-thirds of a cent per page for yellow is the number to plan around.
Which printers does the Canon 040H yellow fit?
The imageCLASS color machines built on Canon's 040H high-yield platform. Check your printer's supply list: if it names the Canon 040H yellow, part number 040HY, this is the cartridge for its yellow slot. Note the H matters — the 040H family is the high-capacity line, distinct from the standard 040 range, and the cartridges are not interchangeable between the two. The part number on your machine's list settles any doubt in seconds.
How do I tell a yellow problem from a cyan problem?
Read the symptom by color. When cyan fades, blues and greens go pale and washed — the colors look weak. When yellow fades, the remaining colors look wrong in temperature — greens turn blue, reds go cold and dark, everything looks shifted rather than faded. The machine's test page removes all guesswork: each color prints its own block, and the cartridge that is failing shows a pale or streaky band in its own color. Diagnose first, order second — it avoids a shelf of wrong cartridges.
What warranty and returns come with it?
The full standard cover: a 1-year warranty against defects and 1-year free returns if the cartridge does not perform as it should, exactly as you would expect from any cartridge we sell. The details are on our shipping and returns page, and if a print problem needs talking through before you decide anything, our support team is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
