Frequently Asked Questions
Why stock two full rounds of color at once?
Color-heavy workflows burn through cyan, magenta and yellow on a schedule that does not wait for procurement. This 6-color set holds two complete cycles of the 040H colors — each cycle being one 040HC, one 040HM and one 040HY, rated at 10,000 pages apiece — so when the first set of colors is exhausted, the second is already in the cupboard and the printer never pauses mid-campaign. At $352.37, buying both cycles together also saves $18.49 against two separate 3-color sets.
Why is there no black cartridge in a set this size?
Because black plays by different rules on this platform. The 040HBK is a 12,500-page cartridge, and offices printing serious color volume often find their black consumption follows the document workload rather than the color workload — so they stock black in its own multi-packs, on its own cycle. This set respects that split: it is a color reserve only, designed to sit alongside whatever black arrangement you already run. If you would rather refresh everything in one box, the 4-color and 8-color sets in this family include the black.
How do we rotate six color cartridges without wasting any?
Cycle discipline. Keep all six sealed, flat, dated on arrival, in a cool dry store away from sunlight and heat. When the printer calls for color, install a complete cycle together — cyan, magenta and yellow from the same round — rather than cherry-picking single cartridges, because channels replaced together age together and hold their color balance. When the second cycle goes in, that is your signal to reorder; the 10,000-page rating on each cartridge gives you a long, predictable runway to do it in.
What does color output look like when one channel quietly runs low?
It drifts before it fails. A fading cyan pushes blues toward grey and greens toward mud; a fading magenta turns reds orange and makes faces look sunburned; a fading yellow is the stealthiest, draining brightness so gradually that people blame the paper. Because this set replaces colors in matched cycles, you avoid the worst version of that drift — one fresh channel overpowering two tired ones — and a test page every few thousand prints will show you honestly where each channel stands.
Is this the standard Canon 040 color range?
No — these are the high-yield 040H versions, codes 040HC, 040HM and 040HY, and the distinction is worth a second look at reorder time. Standard 040 colors fit the same imageCLASS printers, including the LBP654 class, but at smaller capacities; an office that budgets around 10,000 pages per color will burn through a standard set far sooner than planned. When a purchase order just says "040 colors," confirming the H before it is placed prevents the most common supply mistake on this platform.
What happens if a cartridge from the second cycle turns out to be faulty?
It is covered on its own terms: every cartridge in this set carries a 1-year warranty against defects and 1-year free returns if it does not perform as it should, regardless of which cycle it belongs to or how long it waited sealed in proper storage. You are never in the position of returning five good cartridges to resolve one bad one. Full details are on our shipping and returns page, and our team answers Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST. The set ships from our warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California.
