Frequently Asked Questions
What does the fifth cartridge in this set actually do for you?
It removes the emergency. A 5-color set gives you the complete four-cartridge refresh — 040HBK black plus 040HC cyan, 040HM magenta and 040HY yellow — and one additional cartridge held in reserve, so the first channel to run out does not stop the printer while a replacement is ordered. At $255.45, the set costs $35.01 more than the 4-color set, and that extra cartridge is priced well under any single-cartridge purchase in this family. Which channel gets consumed first depends entirely on your documents, and the reserve means the answer stops mattering.
Which cartridges and yields are in the box?
The full 040H line-up: black (040HBK) rated for up to 12,500 pages, and the three colors — cyan (040HC), magenta (040HM), yellow (040HY) — rated for up to 10,000 pages each, with a fifth cartridge alongside them as your spare. We do not merge the ratings into one combined figure, because the channels deplete at different rates in real printing: black-dominant offices lean on the 12,500-page cartridge, while color-heavy work draws the 10,000-page colors down first.
Why not just buy the 4-color set and order a spare when one runs low?
You can — but the low-toner warning and the empty cartridge are often separated by days, not weeks, on a busy machine, and that gap is where rush orders and their prices live. Building the spare into this purchase means it arrives at set pricing, sits sealed in the cupboard, and turns a mid-week toner failure into a two-minute swap. For a printer that a whole team depends on, that is usually worth more than the difference in shelf stock.
How does this set compare with the bigger 8-color option?
Scale. The 8-color set at $422.38 is effectively two full cycles of the printer's toner in one delivery — the right shape for a fleet or a very high-volume single machine planned a year at a time. This 5-color set is the middle path: one complete refresh plus insurance, without committing to a second full cycle of stock. If your machine's monthly volume is moderate, one refresh plus a spare is typically a year's sensible planning; if you are refilling a supply room for several machines, step up to the 8.
Is the whole set covered if just one cartridge misbehaves?
Cover applies cartridge by cartridge. Each of the five carries a 1-year warranty against defects and 1-year free returns if it does not perform as it should, and a problem with one does not drag the others into a return. That also means the spare sitting in its sealed bag is protected on the same terms when its turn comes. The full wording is on our shipping and returns page, and we are reachable Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
Are these the standard Canon 040 cartridges?
No — this is the 040H high-yield family, and the H is worth checking for when you reorder. The codes are 040HBK for black and 040HC, 040HM, 040HY for the colors. Standard 040 cartridges fit the same imageCLASS printers, including the LBP654 class, but they are smaller-capacity cartridges; an office that plans around the 040H's 12,500-page black and 10,000-page colors will find a standard set runs out noticeably sooner.
About This 5-Color Set
This set contains the complete compatible Canon 040H range for one printer — black 040HBK rated for up to 12,500 pages and cyan 040HC, magenta 040HM and yellow 040HY rated for up to 10,000 pages each — plus a fifth cartridge held as a reserve, for Canon imageCLASS color laser printers on the 040H platform, including the LBP654 class. At $255.45 it pairs a full refresh with downtime insurance, ships from our warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California, and every cartridge is covered by our 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. The 4-color and 8-color versions, and black multi-packs, are listed on our Canon toner page.
