Frequently Asked Questions

Everything looks washed out, but black text is crisp — where do I look first?

At magenta. Color pages are built from the three colors even when black handles the text, so a drained TN436M leaves documents pale and lifeless while letters stay sharp. Print a color test page and check the magenta block before you suspect the printer itself.

How do I confirm it is the cartridge and not the machine?

Two quick checks: the printer's supply screen will show magenta far below its partners, and gently rocking the cartridge side to side can briefly revive faded output — a classic sign the powder is nearly gone. If both point the same way, this replacement is the answer.

What am I getting in yield for the price?

A rating of 6,500 pages for $33.88, around 0.52 cents per page. It is the middle tier for these printers — above the TN433 magenta's 4,000 pages, below the TN439's 9,000 — and for most offices it is the tier where cost per page and cartridge price balance out.

Which printers does this cartridge serve?

Brother's TN431/TN433/TN436/TN439 platform machines, including HL-L8360CDW, HL-L8360CDWT, HL-L9310CDW, HL-L9310CDWTT, MFC-L8900CDW, MFC-L9570CDW and MFC-L9570CDWT. The black partner is the TN436BK, and full sets are available as the TN436 4-color set.

If a fresh cartridge still prints pale, what else could it be?

At that point the suspicion moves to the machine's drum unit — on this platform the DR890 — or to a transfer issue, both of which are service questions rather than supply questions. Rule the cartridge out first, as you are doing: it is by far the most common and cheapest cause of washed-out color.

What backing does this purchase have?

Our 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, set out on the shipping & returns page. We ship from IL, PA, GA and CA warehouses, and support is reachable Mon–Fri, 9 AM–5 PM CST if you want a second opinion on a print problem.

About This TN436M Magenta Cartridge

This is the TN436 magenta — 6,500 pages — listed for the owner working through a washed-out-color diagnosis and landing, as most do, on the empty cartridge. It restores the reds and purples that fade first, and it is part of the platform family in our Brother catalog.
