Frequently Asked Questions

How do departments that charge back printing work out this cartridge's cost per copy?

With one division. A GPR-42 cartridge (part number 4791B003AA) costs $82.66 and is rated for up to 34,200 pages, which is roughly 0.24 cents of toner per page. For a department running an imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4035 or 4045 on a chargeback model, that figure drops straight into the per-copy rate alongside paper and the service contract — and it is low enough that toner is rarely the line anyone argues about at budget review.

Is 0.24 cents a page good for this class of machine?

Honest context: within the GPR families we sell for larger Canon machines, this is not the lowest per-page figure — the high-speed production families run lower, because their cartridges hold far more toner. What the GPR-42 buys is the right cartridge for the mid-volume ADVANCE 4025, 4035, 4045, 4051 and 4245 at a per-page cost that stays in the fractions of a cent. The comparison that matters is against the original-brand cartridge for the same machine, and there the saving is substantial.

Which machines take the GPR-42?

The GPR-42 (4791B003AA) is the black toner for the imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4025, 4035, 4045, 4051 and 4245. If your machine's supply list shows GPR-42 or part number 4791B003AA, this is its cartridge. Note that the closely named ADVANCE 4225 takes the GPR-43 instead — the families sit side by side in this series and are not interchangeable, so the cartridge code on your machine is the deciding fact.

How long does one cartridge last at departmental volumes?

At 34,200 rated pages, a workgroup printing 4,000 pages a month gets about eight months per cartridge; a busier department at 7,000 a month, roughly five. The rating assumes standard 5% coverage — dense report pages consume toner faster, plain text slower. Most departments find one cartridge spans a full budget quarter comfortably, which makes planning simple.

What happens if this cartridge fails or prints badly?

It is covered by a 1-year warranty against defects and 1-year free returns if it does not perform as it should. A compatible cartridge should never leave a department absorbing the cost of a bad unit. Full terms are on our shipping and returns page, and our support team is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

Single cartridge or straight to a multi-pack?

If this is your first compatible GPR-42, a single is the right test — your machine, your paper, your verdict. Departments that have already proven the cartridge usually move to the 3-pack or 5-pack listings in this family, where the per-cartridge price drops noticeably. Either way, your order ships from one of our four US warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California; the rest of the range is on our Canon toner page.

About This Cartridge

This is a single compatible Canon GPR-42 black toner cartridge, part number 4791B003AA, rated for up to 34,200 pages, made for the imageRUNNER ADVANCE 4025, 4035, 4045, 4051 and 4245 departmental machines. It is a compatible cartridge, not a Canon original, and it is backed by our 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. At roughly 0.24 cents per page, it gives mid-volume departments a toner cost that disappears into the per-copy rate.
