Frequently Asked Questions
Is the full set actually cheaper than buying the four cartridges one at a time?
Yes — by a margin worth having. Bought singly at their sale prices, the TN229XXLBK black ($159.68), the TN229XXLC cyan ($168.29), and the TN229XXLM magenta and TN229XXLY yellow ($186.89 each) come to $701.75. This set is $611.41, so the row costs $90.34 less bought together — an average of $152.85 a cartridge. Against the set's own $855.97 list price, you are also paying $244.56 under list for four factory-sealed Brother cartridges. The saving is in the bundle, not in a lesser product: the set contains the same four super high-yield codes sold individually on this page's platform.
What exactly arrives in the box?
Four genuine Brother toner cartridges, one per slot: the TN229XXLBK black, the TN229XXLC cyan, the TN229XXLM magenta and the TN229XXLY yellow, each factory-sealed in its own Brother packaging. There is no drum unit in this set — the TN229 platform's drum is a separate, longer-life component — and no fifth cartridge. If your printer is flagging more than one colour low, or you are refreshing a machine end to end, this is the complete toner row in a single order.
Why is the black rated at 4,500 pages but the colours at 4,000?
Because the two figures are stated by class, as Brother rates them: the TN229XXLBK black is a 4,500-page cartridge, and each colour — TN229XXLC, TN229XXLM, TN229XXLY — is a 4,000-page cartridge. They are deliberately not added into one headline total, because no printer empties all four slots at the same rate; your black will almost certainly finish first. Read the set as a 4,500-page black plus 4,000 pages in each colour slot, and plan reorders slot by slot.
How long does a full super high-yield row last?
It depends on which slot your work leans on. A small office printing around 300 pages a month with a modest colour share can run well past a year on the colours and close to that on the black. A team printing 1,000 pages a month, much of it colour, should expect the black to call for replacement in roughly four to five months and the colours not far behind. The honest planning figure is your black consumption: the TN229XXLBK is the pacemaker of this row, and the colours are reordered around it.
My printer currently runs standard TN229 or TN229XL cartridges — can this row go straight in?
Yes. The TN229 platform takes all three yield classes in the same slots — standard TN229, high-yield TN229XL and this super high-yield TN229XXL row — and the classes can be mixed freely, so an XXL black can sit beside XL colours if that is how your stock works out. The one check worth making is the code on the cartridge you are removing: if it reads from the TN229 family in any class, the corresponding XXL code is its larger-capacity counterpart for the same slot, not a different fitment.
How do returns and warranty work on a genuine set like this?
Genuine Brother products are returnable within 30 days in all cases, with cover from Brother's manufacturer warranty — the full terms are on our shipping and returns page. Those OEM terms are the complete arrangement for this set; the longer cover offered elsewhere on this site belongs to compatible cartridges, not original Brother stock. If a cartridge in the set arrives damaged or faulty, contact support Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, inside the window.
