LC79 Ink Cartridges — Super High Yield, Four Printers Only
The boundary here is physical, not commercial: the seven smaller models in this family (MFC-J280W, MFC-J425W, MFC-J430W, MFC-J435W, MFC-J625DW, MFC-J825DW, MFC-J835DW) cannot accept an LC79 cartridge in any slot, whatever a range listing implies. For those printers the top tier is LC75. On the four models that do take LC79, the tiers mix slot by slot — an LC79 black can run beside LC75 colors — and the LC71 standard cartridge plays no part: those four printers never took it.
The LC79 tier is this family's ceiling — LC79BK black up to 2,400 pages and LC79C, LC79M, LC79Y up to 1,200 pages each (ISO/IEC 24711) — and it fits only four printers: MFC-J5910DW, MFC-J6510DW, MFC-J6710DW and MFC-J6910DW. On the four models — MFC-J5910DW, MFC-J6510DW, MFC-J6710DW and MFC-J6910DW — LC79 and LC75 mix slot by slot, so owners can step individual colors up to the super-high tier as the LC75 cartridges empty. At $8.99 for a 2,400-page black, LC79 black runs at well under half a cent a page. Owners of the four also keep the LC75 option open in every slot, so stepping up to the super-high tier never has to be an all-or-nothing switch.
