What are the signs that my drum unit is worn out?

The classic signs are prints that keep fading even with a fresh toner cartridge, dark spots that repeat at the same place down the page, and vertical streaks that cleaning the corona wire does not fix. A drum's photosensitive surface wears gradually, so quality drops slowly rather than stopping all at once. If a new toner cartridge did not restore clean output, the drum is the next suspect.
