    Frequently Asked Questions

My greens have turned blue and the oranges are coming out red — what has actually failed?

The yellow. Almost no color on a printed page is laid down pure: green is cyan printed over yellow, and orange is magenta printed over yellow. Take the yellow away and green collapses into blue while orange drops into red, which is why a cartridge you can barely see on white paper announces its failure through everybody else's colors. When the warm half of the palette drifts cold at the same time, the cartridge at fault is this one — the 106R01084.

How do I prove it is the yellow before I spend money on a replacement?

Print the machine's built-in demo or test page. It lays down a solid block for each color separately, and a spent yellow shows itself honestly there: its block comes out pale, washed or streaky while the others sit full and even. Black text staying perfect is the other clue — black is its own cartridge and never borrows from the yellow, so crisp documents alongside broken greens point at the yellow supply and nothing else.

What does the 5,000-page rating mean in a real office?

It is measured at the industry-standard 5% coverage, roughly a page of text carrying a color logo and a heading. At $60.21 that works out to about 1.2 cents a page. Pages like that sip at the cartridge, so a desk printing letters, invoices and the occasional chart will see those 5,000 pages stretch across a long stretch of ordinary work. Dense color is the exception: a full-page photograph can spend in one sheet what dozens of office pages would, and heavy coverage is the one honest way to make any cartridge die young.

The panel says the yellow is low — do I swap it now or run it to empty?

Neither extreme. If your queue is text and spreadsheets, keep printing: the black cartridge is untouched by the warning and documents will stay sharp to the last page. But color work starts drifting before the yellow fully quits, so a proposal or photo run deserves a cartridge that is not on its warning light. The rhythm that works is to order when the warning appears and swap when the output visibly shifts — you lose no usable toner and never stop mid-job.

We print almost nothing in color — why did the yellow still run down?

Because a color machine never entirely leaves its color supplies alone. Calibration and registration cycles spend small amounts of every toner to keep the four colors aligned, and some print drivers lay a little color beneath black for a richer tone. None of it is visible on your documents, but it adds up across months, which is how a "black-only" office can still empty a yellow cartridge — slowly, and usually to its own surprise.

What cover do I have if this cartridge turns out to be faulty?

A 1-year warranty stands behind it, and returns stay free for a full year, so a defective unit costs you a phone call rather than a second purchase; the full terms live on our shipping and returns page. Orders ship from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, and support answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This Phaser 6300 Yellow Cartridge (106R01084)

This is a single compatible yellow cartridge, part number 106R01084, priced at $60.21 and rated at up to 5,000 pages — about 1.2 cents per page at standard coverage. It serves both machines in the family, the Phaser 6300 and the Phaser 6300DN, and its whole job is the warm side of the page: the yellows themselves, the greens built on them, and every orange in between. When those colors hold, nobody notices this cartridge at all — which is rather the point. The rest of the platform's supplies are gathered on our Xerox page.
