Frequently Asked Questions

Is 5,000 pages a realistic yield for an ML-3712DW in daily use?

Yes, for ordinary office documents. The MLT-D205L rating is measured at 5% page coverage, and daily use — emails, letters, reports, invoices — sits close to that average. Offices printing dense graphics or full-page tables will see fewer pages; those printing mostly short memos may see more.

How will I know when this cartridge has finally reached the end of its life?

The signs are gradual: overall fading that a gentle rock of the cartridge no longer fixes, then pale streaks as the last toner goes. The printer's low-toner warning arrives well before that point, so treat the warning as your cue to order and the fading as your cue to change.

We are choosing between this and the standard-yield cartridge — how should we decide?

Compare pages and price per page. The standard MLT-D205S holds around 2,000 pages; this MLT-D205L holds 5,000 for $39.02, about 0.78 cents a page, with far fewer changes. Unless the printer is used only occasionally, the high-yield cartridge is the rational default for an ML-3712DW.

Which other Samsung printers can use the same cartridge?

The MLT-D205L is shared by the ML-3310 series, the ML-3312 series, the ML-3710 series, the ML-3712ND, and the SCX-4833, SCX-4835, SCX-5637 and SCX-5737 multifunction models. If your building runs several of this Samsung generation, a single cartridge type keeps all of them supplied.

Does copying and scanning on a multifunction model draw on this cartridge too?

Copying does — a copy is a print — but scanning does not use toner at all. Where this cartridge is fitted to one of the SCX multifunction models in its compatibility list, budget its 5,000 pages across both the printing and the copying the machine does.

What backs this cartridge if it faults?

A 1-year warranty and free returns for a year. If it leaks, streaks or fails early, it comes back to us at no cost, as set out on the shipping and returns page. Orders are dispatched from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
