Why does this listing say "MFP" — is it a different cartridge?
No. The "MFP" in the name simply reflects that the MB290-class machines are multifunction printers. The cartridge inside is the same Okidata 56123402 high-yield black, rated at 5,500 pages, and it is priced the same $44.01 as the non-MFP listing. Nothing about the toner, the fit, or the yield changes with the name.
Does copying and scanning use the same cartridge as printing?
Copying does — every copy the machine makes is printed with the same 56123402 toner, so heavy copying draws down the cartridge just like printing. Scanning to file or email uses no toner at all. When you estimate how long one cartridge lasts, count copies alongside printed pages.
What yield should I realistically expect?
The rating is 5,500 pages at standard coverage. An MFP that copies forms, incoming paperwork, and mixed documents all day tends to run heavier coverage than a print-only machine, so plan on landing somewhat under the rating if copying dominates your workload. Light, text-only use can meet or beat it.
Which machines is this cartridge for?
The 56123402 is listed for the Okidata MB260MFP and MB280MFP. This MB290 MFP listing is the same cartridge presented under the multifunction name — if your machine takes a 56123402, this is it.
Is this an original Okidata cartridge?
It is a compatible cartridge manufactured to the 56123402 specification rather than an OEM Okidata product. It carries a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, and our support team is available Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST if anything about its performance concerns you.
How does returns handling work if I have a problem?

About This Cartridge
Sold under the MB290 MFP name, this is the single Okidata 56123402 high-yield black cartridge: $44.01, rated 5,500 pages, roughly 0.80 cents per page at standard coverage. The MFP wording changes nothing about the product — printing and copying on an MB260MFP or MB280MFP both run on this one cartridge, and 56123402 is the part number to match when you reorder.
