Frequently Asked Questions

Honestly — who should NOT buy a 5-pack for their B431?

Anyone who prints very little. If your B431 produces a few hundred pages a month, a single 4,000-page cartridge already lasts well over a year, and five of them could sit on your shelf for the better part of a decade. The pack price is attractive, but money tied up in cartridges you will not open for years is not a saving. Light users are genuinely better served by a single cartridge at $28.45.

And who is this pack right for?

Regular, steady printing. At 1,000 pages a month, the pack's 20,000 pages last about twenty months; at 2,000 pages a month, around ten months. In that rhythm the economics are strong: $68.28 for five cartridges is $13.66 each, against $142.25 if the same five were bought one by one at $28.45 — a saving of $73.97.

What does the cost per page come to?

Roughly 0.34 cents per page across the pack, compared with about 0.71 cents per page buying singles. Per thousand pages that is around $3.41 instead of $7.11. Every cartridge in the box is the standard 44574701 rated at 4,000 pages — the discount comes from the bundle, not from smaller or reduced-fill cartridges.

Does the B431 use the same cartridge as the other models in this range?

Yes. The B431 takes the Okidata 44574701 black cartridge, the same part used by the B411, B411d, B411dn, B431d, B431dn, MB461 MFP, MB471, and MB471W. All five cartridges in this pack are 44574701 units, which is why one pack can cover several different machines if your office runs a mix.

Is there any risk the cartridges will not keep until we need them?

Sealed toner cartridges store well for a long time in a cool, dry place — the powder does not dry out like ink. Keep the boxes flat, out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, install oldest-first, and the last cartridge of the five should print as cleanly as the first. That said, it is one more reason the pack suits steady users rather than very occasional ones.

What protection comes with the pack?

Each cartridge is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, with the details on our shipping and returns page. Orders ship from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia, or California warehouses, and support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
