Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this CE278A different from the standard one?

The toner inside is a MICR formulation — magnetic toner made for printing the coded line along the bottom of cheques, so bank scanners can read the characters magnetically as well as visually. The cartridge itself is the familiar CE278A (78A) shape for the LaserJet Pro P1566, P1606dn and M1536dnf, priced at $26.60.

What is a MICR cartridge used for?

Printing cheques on blank cheque stock: the account and routing line must be produced with magnetic toner for clearing equipment to read it. Offices that print their own payroll or accounts-payable cheques keep a cartridge like this one for that job.

Will my bank definitely accept cheques printed with it?

We cannot promise that — acceptance depends on your bank's own checks of the finished document, including the stock and the printed line's placement. The sensible routine is to print a small test batch first and have your bank confirm it reads correctly before you rely on it for a full run.

How many pages does the MICR cartridge cover?

It carries the same 2,100-page standard rating as the regular CE278A. Cheque pages are mostly empty with a light printed line, so in cheque-only service a cartridge typically lasts through a great many cheque runs.

Can it also print ordinary documents?

It will print normal black text, since it is still a toner cartridge in the CE278A form. Most users dedicate it to cheque stock and keep a standard cartridge for everyday paperwork, swapping between the two as the job requires.

What backing does it come with?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns cover the cartridge, and the support team is available Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST if cheque output looks wrong and you want help working out whether the cartridge is the cause.

About This CE278A MICR Cartridge
