Frequently Asked Questions

Our blues look dull and the greens have lost their punch. Is cyan the problem?

Very likely. Cyan is the backbone of every blue and green the printer makes, and as it empties those colours wash out first — skies go grey-blue, foliage turns muddy, company logos lose their exact shade. This C8551A is the HP 822A cyan cartridge, rated at 25,000 pages, and it is the supply that restores them.

How do I make sure I am ordering the cyan and not another colour?

Read the stamp on the cartridge you pull from the cyan bay: it should read C8551A. Within the 822A family each channel has its own code, and cyan's is this one. These cartridges serve machines such as the Color LaserJet CP4525dn, so a matching stamp settles the order completely.

What does a 25,000-page rating mean for a colour channel?

It is the standard comparison figure at five percent coverage. Cyan consumption depends on what you print — charts, presentations and photographs drink far more than memos — but the rating places this cartridge firmly in the long-interval class: it is built to stay in the machine for months of departmental work.

The printer says cyan is low, but prints still look acceptable. Swap now or wait?

The gauge counts pages; it cannot see your output. Cyan fades gradually, so acceptable today can mean washed-out next week in the middle of an important run. Keep this cartridge ready as the spare and change it when the fade reaches work you would send outside the building.

Is there anything else to replace at the same time?

No separate drum exists on this platform — the imaging drum is part of the cartridge itself. One C8551A at $139.08 is the complete cyan refresh, with nothing else to order, fit or budget for.

What protection do I get with this cartridge?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, as set out on our shipping and returns page. We dispatch from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, and our support team is staffed Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
