Frequently Asked Questions

What is the C8550A, in one sentence?

It is the black cartridge of the HP 822A family — a single, very high-capacity supply rated at 25,000 pages, made for departmental colour printers whose daily output is still overwhelmingly black text. One cartridge costs $86.55.

Why would a colour printer need a black cartridge this large?

Because colour capability does not change what offices print. Reports, contracts, invoices and manuals pour through these machines in black, and a 25,000-page black means the most-used supply is also the least frequently disturbed — fewer interruptions, fewer emergency orders, and a calmer supplies cupboard.

How do I check this is the black my machine takes?

Remove the black cartridge and read its stamp. If it says C8550A, you have found the same supply; the 822A black always carries that code on machines such as the Color LaserJet CP4525dn. The code check takes ten seconds and removes all doubt before ordering.

Does 25,000 pages mean it will last my office a year?

It depends entirely on your volume, which is exactly why the rating is a comparison figure at five percent coverage rather than a calendar promise. A department printing a thousand pages a week will measure its life in months; a quieter one, in well over a year of service.

Text has started printing grey while colour stays strong — is this the cure?

Almost certainly. Strong colour with fading text isolates the problem to the black supply: the printer is healthy, the black is exhausted. Rocking the cartridge side to side may buy a short reprieve, but at the end of a 25,000-page life the honest fix is a fresh C8550A.

What cover and service come with it?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, with the full policy on our shipping and returns page. Orders ship from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, and our support team is reachable Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
