XP-5100

Epson XP-5100 printer

The Expression Home XP-5100 is one of only two US printers that run the Epson 202 family — four individual Claria cartridges, pigment black and dye colours. The Clever Supplies compatible 202XL cartridges below are the high-capacity tier: black (T202XL120) up to 550 pages, cyan, magenta and yellow up to 470 pages each (ISO/IEC 24711), each with a new compatible chip and a lifetime warranty.

XP-5100 Ink — The 202XL Shelf

Epson's specification sheet for the XP-5100 is this family's reference document: replacement cartridges 202 standard-capacity (black up to 210 pages, colours up to 165 each) and 202XL high-capacity — T202XL120 / T202XL220 / T202XL320 / T202XL420 — rated black up to 550 pages and colours up to 470 each, all on the ISO/IEC 24711 pattern. The ink is Claria in four individual cartridges: pigment black, dye colours. Our shelf carries the XL tier — the compatible ladder for this family is built on XL — in four singles, a Set of 4 and a black-weighted Set of 9.

Two boundaries keep orders right. First, the platform is exactly two printers: this XP-5100 and the WorkForce WF-2860 — if your badge says anything else, this is not your ink. Second, the European XP-5105 uses region-coded 202XL Kiwi cartridges, a different product that does not belong in this printer. Badge first, then order: the cartridge coming out of the machine should carry a 202 or 202XL code.

Which 202XL should you buy?

  • One colour ran out: replace just that colour — black, cyan, magenta and yellow singles are $14.99 each.
  • Full refresh: the Set of 4 ($50.94) replaces all four positions in one box.
  • Print every week: the Set of 9 ($107.87) stocks three blacks and two of each colour — the pattern document printing actually consumes.

Chip, ink and everyday use

Every cartridge carries a new compatible chip, so the XP-5100 reports its ink levels normally. The ink split is Claria's classic one: a pigment black that keeps documents crisp and water-resistant, and dye colours for everything else. One honest caution from this family's own pages: these cartridges are chipped, and Epson firmware updates have repeatedly caused recognition warnings with third-party chips on this platform. If one follows an update, reseat the cartridge and restart first — the lifetime warranty stands behind every cartridge regardless, with free returns in the first year.
