XP-4200

The Expression Home XP-4200 is the reference model of the Epson 232 family: four individual Claria cartridges — black in standard (T232120, up to 150 pages) or XL (T232XL120, up to 380 pages), colours standard-only at up to 140 pages each. The Clever Supplies compatible cartridges below cover both black tiers, all three colours and two sets, each with a new compatible chip and a lifetime warranty.

XP-4200 Ink — The 232 Shelf in Full
Everything this family claims traces to Epson's own documents — the XP-4200's Start Here guide prints the 232 cartridge table, and the platform's specification sheet fixes the yields for the family's reference model — the full 232 code set for the XP-4200: black in standard (T232120, up to 150 pages) or XL (T232XL120, up to 380 pages), and colours standard-only — T232220 / T232320 / T232420 at up to 140 pages each — all Claria ink, all rated on the ISO/IEC 24711 pattern. Our shelf stocks the whole compatible ladder: both blacks, the three standard colours, a Set of 4 in Epson's own XL-black pack shape, and a black-weighted Set of 9.
Two look-alikes to keep off this page: the XP-420 — an older, different printer from another family — is not this model, and the XP-5200 belongs to the 222 family. The names differ by a digit or two and share no ink at all. If your badge says XP-4200, every cartridge here is yours; check the code on the cartridge you are removing if the badge is worn.
Which 232 should you buy?
- Black ran out: two ways — the standard black ($14.99, up to 150 pages) or the 232XL black ($19.49, up to 380 pages) that most owners settle on.
- One colour ran out: replace just that colour — cyan, magenta and yellow singles are $10.49 each, at up to 140 pages.
- Full refresh: the Set of 4 ($47.21) pairs the XL black with the three standard colours — Epson's own pack shape for this family.
- Print every week: the Set of 9 ($98.87) stocks three XL blacks and two of each colour.
Chip, ink and everyday use
Every cartridge carries a new compatible chip, so the XP-4200 reports its ink levels normally; the ink is Claria in all four positions. This class has a documented quirk, stated plainly: invalid-cartridge messages have clustered around firmware updates on these printers. If a warning follows an update, reseat the cartridge and restart before treating it as a verdict — and every cartridge here carries our lifetime warranty, with free returns for the first year. Keep spares sealed until install day.
