Frequently Asked Questions

What does "Jumbo" mean on this cartridge?

It means capacity. The 330-4130 (M797K-J) is the jumbo version of the 330-4130 black cartridge for the Dell Laser 2230 series: same cartridge form, more toner inside, rated at 6,000 pages instead of the smaller fill the standard version carries. For a small office printer, 6,000 pages is a long service interval — at a few hundred pages a month, a single jumbo cartridge can run the better part of a year. "Jumbo" is about how much toner is in the box, nothing more exotic than that.

What does a page cost with the M797K-J?

The cartridge is $78.79 for 6,000 pages, which divides out to roughly 1.31 cents per page — about $13.13 per thousand pages. That is the number to judge it by. A compact desktop machine like the Laser 2230 will never match the per-page cost of a big workgroup printer, and this page will not pretend otherwise; within its class, though, the jumbo fill is the economical way to buy toner for it, because the price per page falls as the cartridge size rises. Buying the smallest cartridge repeatedly is the expensive habit.

How long will 6,000 pages last in a small office?

Run the numbers for your own desk. At 250 pages a month — a light but realistic load for a 2230 doing letters, invoices and reports — this cartridge lasts about two years. At 500 a month, about a year. At 1,000 a month, six months, and at that point you are pushing a compact printer hard enough that the jumbo cartridge is less a luxury than a necessity, simply to keep cartridge changes from becoming a monthly chore. The honest caution runs the other way: if your printing is very light, a smaller cartridge may suit you better than stock that sits for years.

How do we get the full 6,000 pages out of it?

Print quality is the tell. As any cartridge nears the end, output fades gradually rather than stopping dead, so replace the 330-4130 (M797K-J) when pages start looking washed out instead of coaxing extra weeks from a cartridge that is visibly done — faded documents look unprofessional long before the cartridge is truly empty. Store the spare the way you would store the installed one: sealed, flat, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. Toner is forgiving, but a cartridge baked on a windowsill for a summer is not the cartridge you paid for.

Is this a genuine Dell cartridge?

No — this is a compatible 330-4130 (M797K-J), manufactured by a third party to the same specification as Dell's original cartridge rather than by Dell. The jumbo capacity, the 6,000-page rating and the $78.79 price are exactly as listed; what differs from the original is the badge on the box and what you pay for it. If buying the printer maker's own brand matters to you, that is what the original is for — this listing exists for buyers who would rather keep the difference.

What warranty and support stand behind it?

The same terms as every cartridge on the site: a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, explained on our shipping and returns page. Your order ships from whichever of our warehouses — Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California — gets it to you sensibly, and support is staffed Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST. If a cartridge arrives damaged or fails early in its life, that is a straightforward claim, and the free-returns window runs a full year rather than the usual thirty days.
