Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a 4,000-page cartridge actually last in a working 3100?

It depends on your monthly volume. An office printing around 1,000 pages a month gets roughly four months from a cartridge; a lighter user at 300 pages a month is looking at well over a year. The set contains four cartridges — black 310-5726, cyan 310-5731, magenta 310-5730 and yellow 310-5729, each rated at up to 4,000 pages — but they drain at different speeds, with black almost always first in normal document work.

What am I paying per cartridge in this set?

The set is $117.06 for four cartridges, about $29.27 each. For an older color laser like the Dell 3100, that compatible per-cartridge price is what keeps the machine economical to run — the Dell-branded versions of the 310-5726, 310-5731, 310-5730 and 310-5729 were far more expensive and are now hard to source at all.

Is the 4,000-page figure realistic for color pages?

It is the industry-standard rating, measured at 5% page coverage. A letter with a logo sits near that; a full-bleed color flyer uses several times more toner and will pull the real total down. Black text pages stay closest to the rating. Treat 4,000 pages as the benchmark every brand is measured by, not a promise for heavy graphics work.

Is this set made by Dell?

No — it is a compatible set from a third-party manufacturer, made to the same specification as the Dell originals for the 3100. The part numbers (310-5726 black, 310-5731 cyan, 310-5730 magenta, 310-5729 yellow), the fit and the rated yields are unchanged; the saving comes from the compatible manufacturing, not from a smaller or weaker cartridge.

What if a cartridge disappoints?

Every cartridge in the set is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so a poor performer comes back to us rather than staying your problem. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and the full policy is on our shipping & returns page.

Why buy all four at once if only the black is empty?

Because on a printer of this age the other colors are rarely far behind, and a set on the shelf ends the stop-start of emergency single orders. If you genuinely only need the black 310-5726, it is sold individually too — but at $117.06 for all four, restocking the whole machine in one order is usually the better arithmetic.
