Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this cartridge sold under the number 310-5730 instead of a printer name?

Because one Dell part number often covers more than one machine. The 310-5730 is the magenta cartridge shared by the Dell Color Laser 3000cn and the 3100cn, so Dell — and we — list it by the number stamped on the cartridge itself. If the cartridge you pulled out of your printer says 310-5730, this listing is that cartridge, whatever the badge on the printer says.

What does "high yield" actually get me here?

Pages. The 310-5730 is rated at 4,000 pages, which is the larger fill for this printer family. In practical terms that is eight reams of paper between magenta changes. At $43.14, the cartridge works out to about 1.08 cents per page for the magenta channel — a fair, capacity-first figure rather than the lowest per-page price on the market, and we would rather say that plainly than dress it up.

What does magenta actually do in our printouts?

More than most people expect. Magenta builds your reds, pinks and purples, and it is half of every realistic skin tone. When it fades, reds turn orange, faces look jaundiced, and company logos in red or burgundy shades visibly drift off-brand. If the color problem in your 3000cn or 3100cn lives on the warm side of the page, magenta is the usual suspect.

How should I store a spare 310-5730?

Keep it sealed in its bag, upright, in a cool dry cupboard away from direct sunlight and heat vents. Stored that way, a spare sits happily until the installed cartridge runs down. Buy the spare when the printer first warns you, and the swap becomes a two-minute job instead of a two-day wait.

Is this an original Dell cartridge?

No — this is a compatible cartridge built to the 310-5730 specification, and it is priced accordingly at $43.14. It carries our standard backing for this line: a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, with the details on our shipping and returns page.

Who do I talk to if I am not sure this is my cartridge?

Our support team answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and can confirm the number against your printer before you order. Orders ship from our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California warehouses. The full range for these printers is also listed on our Dell toner page if you want to compare the other colors first.
