Frequently Asked Questions

What does the CF310A code mean for my M855dn?

It means this is the black cartridge your Color LaserJet M855dn was built around — the black half of the HP 826A family. The M855dn is the duplex workhorse of the 826A platform, and CF310A is the black supply it asks for by name on the supplies screen. If you are reordering from a supply list or an old invoice, CF310A is the line to match.

How does duplex printing affect the 29,000-page yield?

The 29,000-page rating counts printed pages, not sheets of paper. A two-sided report page prints two pages — one on each face — so a cartridge that yields 29,000 pages will carry roughly 14,500 sheets of full duplex work. That is still a long run between swaps, but departments that print everything two-sided should plan their reorder point on sheets, not on the headline number.

Both sides of our two-sided pages are fading evenly — cartridge or machine?

Even fading on both faces points at the toner, not the printer. The same cartridge prints both sides of the sheet, so when it runs low the fade appears uniformly across the whole document. One-sided streaks or marks that repeat down the page are a different story, but a gentle overall slide from black to gray is the CF310A telling you it is nearly done.

Can I swap the black in the middle of a long duplex run?

Yes — the printer pauses the job while the door is open, and the run resumes once the new cartridge is in and the door is closed. Unpack and de-seal the replacement before you open the door so the pause stays short, and the M855 will run its quick calibration and pick the job back up. Nobody on the floor needs to resend their work.

How do we time reorders on a machine that works this hard?

Check the supplies percentage on the status page during a weekly walk-past, and keep one sealed CF310A in the cabinet next to the printer. On a duplex workhorse the sensible reorder trigger is the low warning, not the empty message — at dn volumes the gap between the two can be a single big report run.

What if we get a cartridge that does not print right?

Every cartridge carries a 1-year warranty with 1-year free returns under our shipping and returns policy. Orders are dispatched from Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California warehouses, and you can reach our support team Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This M855dn Black Cartridge

The M855dn earns its keep doing the unglamorous work: two-sided manuals, policy documents, report packs and anything else where hundreds of sheets have to come out right without supervision. Black toner is the fuel for all of it, and the CF310A's 29,000-page yield is sized to that job.

This compatible cartridge costs $151.71 and matches the original 826A black specification for fit and yield. For a duplex machine, the cheapest cartridge is the one that never stops a run halfway through.
