Frequently Asked Questions

Which black cartridge does the M577C call for?

Its black slot takes the CF360X, the black cartridge of HP's 508X family — this listing, at $54.43 for the single cartridge. Read the stamp on the cartridge you remove; if it says CF360X, you are looking at its replacement, whatever the machine's variant letter is.

Why does our MFP burn through black so much faster than color?

Because an MFP's daily work is monochrome work. Photocopies default to black, incoming faxes print in black only, and the office's documents are text. The color cartridges wait for the occasional presentation or chart, so black empties first — often long first — on the M577C and every machine like it.

Do copies and scans use toner the way printing does?

Copies do; scans do not. A copy is a print, laid down with toner from the CF360X. A scan is just an image captured to a file or an email — it spends no toner at all. Offices that scan heavily but print lightly are often surprised how long a 12,500-page cartridge lasts them.

How far does the 12,500-page rating stretch on an MFP?

Budget it across everything the machine prints: copies, faxes and documents all draw from the same black cartridge. A copy-and-fax-heavy M577C will work through the rating faster than a print-only machine on the same supply family as the Color LaserJet M533X, because two of its three paper jobs are invisible in a print count.

Our copies have started coming out pale. Is that the black cartridge?

Very likely. Copy density fades as the CF360X empties, and copies show it plainly — light grays where originals are black. Put a fresh cartridge in; if copies return to full density, the old cartridge was simply spent, which is the most common ending for these supplies.

What if this cartridge arrives damaged or gives trouble early?

It carries a 1-year warranty with 1-year free returns. We ship from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and our support team answers Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST — the full policy is on our shipping and returns page.

About This CF360X Black Cartridge for the Color LaserJet M577C

The M577C asks more of its black cartridge than a plain printer does: copies and faxes pile onto the print queue's demand. This compatible CF360X answers with a 12,500-page rating at $54.43, from the HP 508X family. Stock it by the part number and the MFP's busiest slot stays covered — one cartridge for the copies, the faxes and the documents alike.
