Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does the part number CF360X identify?

CF360X is the black cartridge in HP's 508X supply family — one black cartridge, rated at 12,500 pages, sold here on its own for $54.43. If the cartridge you pulled out of your machine is stamped CF360X, this is its like-for-like replacement. Ordering by that stamped part number, rather than by a printer's marketing name, is the surest way to avoid mix-ups when several Enterprise models share one supply shelf.

How many pages should we realistically expect from one CF360X?

The 12,500-page rating assumes standard office coverage. A workload of letters, memos and reports usually lands close to it, while dense contracts, filled forms and full-page graphics pull the real total below it. Think of the rating as a planning number for budgeting, not a guarantee printed on the box.

Why does the black slot on a color LaserJet always run dry first?

Because most of what these machines print all day is monochrome. Everyday documents are black text, copies default to black, and charts or cover pages are the rare exception. The color cartridges mostly sit and wait, so the black cartridge is nearly always the first one to call for a replacement.

Our black text has gone gray and washed out. Is the cartridge finished?

Usually, yes. A CF360X near the end of its life lays down less toner, so solid text fades to gray and large black areas look patchy. Rocking the cartridge gently side to side can redistribute what is left for a short reprieve, but treat that as your signal to order — not as a repair.

Can I keep a spare CF360X on the shelf without it going bad?

Yes. Leave the spare in its sealed packaging, stored flat at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and it will be ready when the working cartridge runs out. Give it a gentle side-to-side rock before installing to loosen the toner inside.

What backs this cartridge if it arrives damaged or fails early?

Every Clever Supplies cartridge carries a 1-year warranty with 1-year free returns. Orders ship from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and our support team answers Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST — full terms are on our shipping and returns page.

About This HP 508X Black Toner Cartridge (CF360X)

This is the single black cartridge for the HP 508X supply family, built for the Color LaserJet Enterprise line — machines such as the Color LaserJet M533X and its M552, M553 and M577 relatives. At a 12,500-page rating it matches the appetite of a departmental printer that lives on monochrome documents, and at $54.43 it keeps the busiest slot in the machine stocked without tying up budget in cartridges you do not need yet.
