How can I prove it is the cyan cartridge before I spend money on one?

Use the printer's own test page — it prints a solid block for each color, and the failing one gives itself away: a cyan block that comes out streaked, pale or patchy is a cartridge at the end of its life, no guesswork involved. Compare it with the magenta and yellow blocks on the same sheet. If cyan is the weak panel while the others are solid, replacing the 106R01452 is the diagnosis and the cure in one step.

Scans look perfect but copies come out with a green tint — why the difference?

Because scanning and copying use different hardware. A scan only reads the page; a copy reads it and then prints it, and the printing half is where cyan does its work. A clean scan beside a green-tinted copy tells you the scanner is innocent and the print engine is starving for cyan. That split is one of the most useful free diagnostics an MFP gives you.

Is shaking the old cartridge a real trick or a myth?

It is real, but it is a bridge, not a repair. Toner settles and compacts as a cartridge empties, so a gentle side-to-side rock redistributes what is left and can buy a few dozen acceptable pages. Treat it as the time you need to get a replacement ordered — the underlying supply is still nearly gone, and color quality will slide again quickly, usually starting with those same washed-out blues.

What does the 2,500-page rating look like for a small office, in months?

At a modest pace — say 150 color pages a month between reports, invoices with color logos and the occasional presentation — one cartridge covers well over a year. Push that to 500 color pages a month and you are looking at roughly five months. The rating assumes 5% coverage, so photo-heavy months shorten the calendar; text-with-accents months stretch it.

Only cyan is empty. Is there any reason to replace more than one cartridge?

None at all. The four units are independent, each with its own supply and its own warning, and pulling a cartridge that still has life in it throws away pages you already paid for. Swap the cyan, leave its neighbors exactly where they sit, and let each color announce its own end in its own time.
