Frequently Asked Questions

One cartridge in the printer, one on the shelf — is that the idea behind this pack?

Exactly that. The two-pack puts a working MLT-D205L in the ML-3312ND and its replacement within arm's reach, so the day the first cartridge fades is a two-minute swap rather than the start of a delivery wait. Between them the pair holds 10,000 rated pages.

What does the pair do to the per-cartridge price?

Two cartridges cost $59.55 — $29.78 each, against $39.02 for a single. That is $18.49 saved across the pair, and toner per rated page falls from about 0.78 cents to about 0.60 cents.

How long will 10,000 pages keep the ML-3312ND going?

At 1,000 pages a month, around ten months; at 2,000 a month, about five. The 5,000-page rating behind each cartridge is set at 5% coverage, so a diet of dense forms will land a little under those spans and plain text can match them.

How should the spare cartridge be kept while the first is in use?

Sealed in its box, flat, somewhere cool and dry away from sunlight and radiators. Toner powder is stable over a long shelf life; when the working cartridge fades, the spare goes straight in. Each cartridge in the pair carries a 1-year warranty with free returns for one year from purchase, the spare included.

Does the pair make sense for a lightly used printer?

It is the gentlest way to stock ahead: one spare is insurance rather than inventory. Offices printing very heavily, though, get a better per-cartridge price from the four-pack at $100.60 ($25.15 each) or the five-pack at $121.13 ($24.23 each) — the ladder is there to match your pace.

Which other machines take these cartridges?

The MLT-D205L is shared across the platform: the ML-3310ND, ML-3312D, ML-3710, ML-3710ND, ML-3712 and ML-3712DW printers and the SCX-4835, SCX-4835FR, SCX-5637, SCX-5637FN, SCX-5639HR and SCX-5739 multifunctions, among others in the Samsung range — so the spare can rescue a neighbouring machine too.
