Frequently Asked Questions

What does one printed page actually cost with this cartridge?

At $103.91 for a rated 15,000 pages, the math works out to roughly 0.69 cents per page at the standard 5% coverage the rating assumes. Because most office output is black text, this cartridge — not the colors — is the one that sets the real running cost of a CL4000DN. Denser pages with heavy graphics will use more toner per page, and light text pages will use less.

How long does 15,000 pages last in a real office?

It depends entirely on monthly volume: at about 500 pages a month, one cartridge can carry a small office for roughly two and a half years, while a department printing 2,000 pages a month will go through it in seven to eight months. Remember that photocopies count too — the copier function draws from this same black cartridge, so copy-heavy offices drain it faster than print-only ones.

Which printers does this black cartridge work with?

This listing names the Ricoh Aficio CL4000DN, but the 888308 is the black cartridge for the whole platform family, and it fits every model in Lanier LP226cn, Aficio CL4000DN, Aficio SP C410DN and Aficio SP C411DN. The listing title highlights one machine; the cartridge itself is not limited to that single model. If your machine appears in that list, this is its black cartridge.

Why does the black cartridge empty before the colors do?

Black handles all text, grayscale shading, and the black component inside color documents, so it is consumed by nearly every page the machine produces. Pure black-and-white prints and copies draw on it alone, without touching cyan, magenta, or yellow at all. That is why black is almost always the first cartridge a CL4000DN asks for, even in offices that think of themselves as color printers.

What if this cartridge arrives defective or fails early?

Every Clever Supplies cartridge is covered by a one-year warranty, and returns are free for a full year if something is wrong. The details are spelled out on our shipping & returns page, and support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, if you need help before sending anything back. Keep the cartridge and its packaging until you know it prints cleanly.

How quickly will my order reach me?

Orders ship from whichever of our four warehouses — Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia, or California — is closest to you, which keeps transit times short in most of the country. You will get tracking as soon as the box leaves the building. If timing is critical, order before the low-toner warning turns into an empty-cartridge stop.
