Frequently Asked Questions
Why buy two black cartridges in one order instead of one at a time?
Two singles would cost $207.82; this pair is $189.34, so you save $18.48 and drop the per-cartridge price to $94.67. The second reason is continuity: black is the cartridge a CL4000DN runs out of first, and having the spare already on the shelf turns a mid-job stoppage into a two-minute swap. One goes in the machine, one waits — that is the whole system.
How much printing does 30,000 pages really cover?
Combined, the pair is rated at 30,000 pages at 5% coverage. An office printing around 1,000 pages a month is looking at roughly two and a half years of black toner from a single order, while a busier department at 3,000 pages a month will use the pair in about ten months. Photocopies draw from the same cartridges, so count copy volume in your estimate.
Will both cartridges fit my printer, or is one a different type?
Both are the identical 888308 black cartridge, and the type serves the entire CL4000DN platform family — Lanier LP226cn, Aficio CL4000DN, Aficio SP C410DN and Aficio SP C411DN. This listing is titled for the CL4000DN, but the cartridge is the standard black for every model on that list. There is no special "second cartridge" variant; either one can go in first.
Can I split this pair between two different machines?
Yes. These are two ordinary, individually sealed cartridges, not a linked set, so one can go into the CL4000DN by the front desk and the other into a second platform machine down the hall. Splitting the pair is also a sensible way for a two-machine office to hold its spare stock in one purchase. Just store the unopened one flat, indoors, and away from heat.
Does a spare cartridge go bad sitting on the shelf?
Toner is a dry powder, not a liquid ink, so a sealed cartridge does not dry out the way inkjet cartridges can. Kept in its packaging in a normal office environment, the spare will be ready when the installed cartridge runs out, even if that is a year or more later. Give it a gentle shake side to side before installing to redistribute the toner after long storage.
What protection do I get on a two-cartridge purchase?
Both cartridges carry the same one-year warranty, and our returns stay free for a full year — the full policy lives on the shipping & returns page. If the first cartridge ever misbehaves, do not open the second one; contact support (Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST) and we will sort out which unit is at fault. Unopened cartridges are the easiest of all to return or replace.
